Sisters Program
Posted on Mar 03 , 2011 in Events
With Allah’s grace, we are pleased to announce that Masjid Khadeejah will now offer a Sisters Program.
When: every other Sunday, starting this Sunday, 3/6/2011 @11am (insh’Allah)
Idea: The program will be designed as a series of talks to bring about a clear understanding of Islam as described by the Prophet Salla Allahu Alyhi Wasalam and how it can be applied in our lives to improve ourselves and our surroundings.
This Week’s Topic: The first talk will be about understanding and re-building our relationship with Allah by explaining “Taqwa and it’s implications” and then we will branch off from there Insha’Allah.
These series will be offered by sister Iman Alkassir.
Here is a short bio of sister Iman in her words:
I was born and raised in Iowa. I am the youngest of seven children. I have now been a practicing Muslim for 28 years. I am married to a wonderful man who is from Damascus, Syria. We have 5 beautiful children and 3 grandchildren. I have had the blessing of experiencing life in Syria, we lived there for 4 years altogether. I was enrolled in the Arabic Language Institute and learned to read, write and speak the Arabic language. I also had a private teacher who further helped me to read and understand the Qur’an. It was also a vital opportunity to experience the Islamic way of life first-hand.
When I returned to the States in 2005, I had a drive, a need if you will, to share all that I had learned while being over-seas. I began volunteering in the Islamic community. I have conducted classes for adult Muslim women and worked as a Sunday school teacher for the Colorado Muslim Society (the central Mosque on Parker Road)for several years. I was elected President of the CMS Women’s Committee for one year term (2009-2010). My responsibilities included Islamic education/Arabic classes for women, the establishment of the CMS Girls’ Youth program, charity functions and Islamic outreach programs to educate non-Muslims about the “true Islam”.
I currently serve as a member of the CMS Dawah Outreach program. I have given many talks and presentations to high schools and churches about Islam. I also teach Islamic Studies at Crescent View Academy, a full-time Islamic School, for 7th and 8th grade students. And I am soon to begin my second semester at the Islamic Online University based in Doha, Qatar, pursuing my Bachelors degree in Islamic Studies. My major will be focused on the Science of the Quran (God-willing).
